September 2009

A lot has been happening in the past few months. Back in April and May, I hit the road for more coverage of the EPT, which had me reporting from San Remo - Italy, and Monte Carlo - Monnoco. Both these events were a success, and I was very pleased with the product delivered.

At the end of May until the end of July, I was in the United States covering the World Series of Poker for the second year in a row, and managed to survive what proved to be a very long and arduous job in Las Vegas. The WSOP is both the largest and most heavily publicised event on the poker calender, and is the behemoth of poker tournaments. So, I was more than happy to be kept just as busy as last year! August had me working in both Melbourne and Sydney on smaller gigs, which meant it was nice to keep it local for a change.

As you can see, my life on the road has kept me somewhat occupied for the past year, and has left me with a blessed impression of the world - clocking up more than 108,000 Kms in the past 6 months (that’s two and a half times around the world). As for the rest of the year, I anticipate taking some time off as I develop a new personal project I intend on embarking on. I’m definitely not closing the doors to work in the coming months, but instead am looking forward to getting back into a difficult creative endeavour. All I can say is ‘watch this space…’

March 2009

I can’t believe March has come and gone already. The days and months seem to be flying by faster than ever. Over the past few months I have been working on a handful of jobs, including a somewhat spontaneous trip to the Austrian Alps for yet another poker tournament. All went surprisingly well there, despite a very unpleasant emergency landing after a botched take-off in Melbourne. I think it is safe to say I will never fly with Emirates again after their frightening incompetence surrounding the debacle on EK407.

February brought a number of jobs with Gersh Productions for Pacific Brands and Toll, following their financial mid-year results and events. I enjoy the corporate gigs as they only add to the spectrum of work I am lucky enough to dabble across. I also completed an editing job on an EPK for the new Sydney based production company ‘The Grindhouse’.

The coming months should bring more travel, as well as a couple of new gigs which I’m always happy to pick up. Although tiring, I find these times both exciting and satisfying.

January 2009

Happy New Year everyone. The last couple of months have been somewhat stacked for me, with a number of old and new projects popping up. November and December saw the 2008 AGM and several other jobs for BHP in Melbourne, which meant some busy times with Gersh Productions. There was also the 2008 Bluescope Steel AGM, which took place in Sydney.
December also saw the arrival of the 2008 Asia Pacific Poker Tour Grand Final in Sydney. For two weeks I covered all the action on the felt at Star City Casino.
The arrival of the New Year also brought more poker with it. The 2009 Aussie Millions took place at Crown Casino here in Melbourne for a period of three weeks. I’m proud to say that the standard of organisation and coverage for this championship has significantly stepped up a level since last year.
Outside of the usual gigs, I have managed to finally complete a personal project I have been working on in my spare time for the past two years. Special thanks go out to Cameron Chapman for putting the time and effort into producing a fantastic sound mix and composition. The animation is called ‘Alexander: The Not So Great…’ and information on it can be found here.
In the coming months I will be working on a number of projects, including a music video for a couple of local artists.

November 2008

September and October saw me traveling through Europe covering a handful of the tournaments on the professional poker circuit.  I spent most of the time in Cannes, Barcelona and London. Shortly after returning, I worked with Gersh Productions on the Pacific Brands AGM in Melbourne. The following week, I was back covering poker with the PokerNews Cup which took place at Crown Casino.

In between jobs, I have made the effort to find time for a number of personal creative projects. This included shooting a series of comedy skits for local film-maker, David Jackson. David recently celebrated the premiere of his controversial horror film ‘Cannibal Suburbia’ at the 2008 Melbourne Underground Film Festival. I was credited for the camerawork and the film’s animated opening title sequence.
‘Cannibal Suburbia’ gathered some acclaim following the unique write-up it received in The Age newspaper.

Over the next couple of months, I will be traveling to Sydney with Gersh Productions for the Bluescope Steel AGM, working on a series of web animations for a local investment company as well as finishing the final sound mix on an animated short that has been almost two years in the making.

August 2008

This month has been a very busy, but enthralling one for me. First of all, I’m exited to introduce you to the new website. Many thanks go to Vocle, who did a fantastic job of putting it together.
After returning from eight weeks of work in the United States, I have found myself shooting more EPK and Behind The Scenes videos for Warner Music and The Galvatrons, as well as working as a video technician for Gersh Productions on several more corporate events for BHP Billiton, BlueScope Steel and Toll.

August also saw the production of another short film ‘I’m the Lion’, Directed by Bill Irving with James Brown as DOP. The 3-5 minute short film had a large team consisting of many of the people who crew with James on ‘City Homicide’ and upcoming series ‘The Pacific’. Much time, effort and money was spent on getting a beautiful and unique look to the film, so I congratulate the boys on their efforts.

Next month will prove itself to be ever so busy yet again, as I travel to Cannes, Barcelona and London, following the live coverage of the European Poker Tour and World Series of Poker Europe. I’m due to return after four weeks.
